I was ..... at a loss for words.... when I first saw the Charger. I
think I like it - I'm not so sure though. I was hoping for soemthing
closer to what a Charger used to look like - or even closer to the
Charger Concept. The Concept didn't look like an old Charger either -
but it looked MORE like a charger then this final production version...
everyone got that?
I love the new Chrysler 300, I like the Magnum... what hurt my opinion
about the magnum was its seriously low slung windows and seriously less
than perfect lines of sight through those low slung windows. Reminds me
of a herse sort of.
New Mustang = KILLER! I would LOVE one of those. I'm praying for a
new retro styled Camaro - I saw an artist rendering of a retro Camaro
based strngly off the 1969 model. Very nice. Chevy needs to make that.
GTO = rebadged Aussie Holden Monero = SUCKS. The guys at work all
like the GTO - I think its a pile.
I do want to test drive a Charger. And see it in person. Perhaps my
opinion will change after that. I think what I like least about the
Charger is the front end. It seems like they took a Ram grill and stuck
it on a car. An odd blend of truck style with a sedan. It just doesn;t
work for me really. If the grill was NOT so rounded - if it was more
angular and sharper cut - it would be perfect I think.
Someone wrote once when talking about retro style (in some car mag some
place) that there is a fine line when going retro with a
car/truck/whatever style. TO make it TOO retro - will make it an
oddity. Loved only by those who were fanatics about the original car
that the retro model pays homage to. Make it too modern and not retro
enough - (like the GTO and now the charger) and you loose the diehard
follower segment. I think thats what DC did with the charger. They
didnt want to stick with something like a 2 door muscle car package -
yet they didnt want to make it too modern and far away from the
original.. But somehow - what they came up with - struck neither of
those aspects - and just seems to be a misfit.
Ok ok I'll wait to pass final judgement untill I drive one and see one
in person.
