But IIRC, the 5-speed was only available with the 5.9l in the 2500 & 3500 Ram
and is not the same 5-speed used in the Dakota. When I ordered my 1500
QuadCab, I couldn't get a 5-speed with the 5.9l. I would have had to go with
the 5.2. Unofficially, the sales-manager (a good friend) told me the 5.9 was
near the torque rating of the 5-speed used in the 1500 and that's why it wasn't
available. The 2500 & 3500 used a bigger tranny that didn't fit in the 1500
chassis.

I would say, because we are getting this story 3rd party. In any event, it's
not worth the flame war I see brewing here.
