I did a road trip in 2003 that was very extended. Here's the nuts of it...

Day 1, 8 pm - Left Bloomington, IL
Day 2, 5 pm - Arrive at Super 8; Cody, Wyoming
  Day 3 - Yellowstone Driving
  Day 4 - Yellowstone Driving
Day 5, 1 pm - Leave Cody, Wy
Day 6, 7 am - Arrive Bloomington, IL

Mind you, my sister drove her car from Indianapolis (three extra hours
each way) on top of this.

Total Mileage - 3331.9 Miles
Driving Time - 48 hours.
Number of animals killed (by tires) - 3 (one bird, one squirrell, and
one groundhog)
Getting frostbite and sunburn at tthe same time - PRICELESS
  * At the Top Of The World Pass in Wyoming (11,000 foot pass; highest in
North America) -
