The A518 is a somewhat popular swap for the muscle car crowd; my
understanding is that you just need to rig up a manual switch to control
the OD. I don't know about the newer trannies (46re and 44re), but with
the aformentioned, hydraulically controlled transmissions it is the PCM
itself which tells the tranny when to go into and out of overdrive.
There isn't a separate tranny computer or anything, the PCM already has
the vehicle speed signal of course, and all it does is to apply power
or ground (I don't remember which) to the OD relay/circuit when the
appropriate conditions are met. By wiring a manual switch to the OD
relay/circuit you are basically replacing the electronic computer with
a meat computer that determines when the conditions are appropriate
for OD. :-)
