about every spring i do a tune up. just did it yesterday. this is what i got done so
far:
-drop in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner into the tank. ( the large truck/SUV version
in the gold bottle )
-Relieved fuel pressure by removing fuel pump relay and letting her run till she stalls.
-Replaced fuel filter. ( fram )
-Replaced relay and started her up and immediatley check for leaks around the filter. I
had to tighten one hose clamp cause it leaked. ;-)
-Tested each fuel injector with 12V to battery for 1/4 second and listening for a solid
"click" sound. All are ok.
-replace PCV valve ( fram )
-replace breather cap ( fram )
-replace oil fill caps ( i use the $3 caps from stant or fram. i replace them every
year )
-replace distributor cap & rotor ( borg-warner )
-replace spark plug wires ( autolite professional $40 )
-replace spark plugs ( autolite )
-replace serpentine belt. ( orginal was on there for 2 years and look a little worn )
-check all hoses. all are ok.
did i miss anything here?
more to do:
i need to verify all is well with the heads and pistons. so what's your opinion on the
worth (or worthlessness) of these tests. which one is going to be most revealling in
terms of health of the engine internals.
