The flex plate sits inside the rotor which has about a 1/4 inch lip, making
using a feeler gauge very difficult but as near as I can tell the gap was over
twice the thickness of my 0.02" gauge putting it well out of spec. I removed
the 0.02 shim from below the flex plate and now it works as well as it ever
has. However, I did notice that only about 120 degrees of the plate is being
pulled down against the rotor (only 1/3 of the plate is flexing) so it appears
as though the flex plate is defective and pulling the shim will only be a
temporary fix. Need to go look at my brothers durango for a comparison but I
think I'll be off to the junk yard for a new flex plate.
