Brfore the engine was removed, this one roared for the first 50 yards of
driving, then got quiet. With it out of the engine, it's hard to spin by
hand when holding the water pump pulley still but loosens up after a few
revolutions, then can be spun by hand easily.

Mine roared like a lion when I replaced it, much louder than it used to. The
fan clutch is a hydraulic temperature sensitive unit. I think it engages at
210 rpm. I am not positive, but if you can freely turn the fan with the
engine off more than 2-3 turns, the clutch is probably bad.
