Re: alternatives to Mopar ignition stuff

Hey miggity,

My truck had a pinging problem at WOT at around 3K with my new Superchips
tuner, though not near as bad as with the Hypertech I tried first. It has
30,000 miles on it, and had the original wires, cap/rotor, and new stock plugs
gapped at .040.

Here's what I did to fix it:

If you have an AutoZone near you, they sell Bosch plug wires for about $36.
These are spiral-core wires that fit in the stock looms. They have a lifetime
warranty, and I've even used them in the past with MSD boxes, and they hold up
fine. I also installed a Borg Warner brass cap/rotor from Pep Boys, but any cap
with brass contacts should work good, too.

I even routed the wires the old way (no funky revised routing), and the ping is
GONE. Gas mileage and power is up, too.

Another thought is to check the coil. When I pulled the stock wires off of
mine, I couldn't believe the amount of rust/corrosion I found on the terminal.
I cleaned it off the best I could, but I'll probably be replacing it with
something that has a brass contact.

Just my 2 cents,
