Sorry about your Dakota. Water under the bridge for you but maybe worthy advice
for some one else.

When my oldest boy was learning to drive I could tell right away that he wasn't
going to treat my vehicles with the same respect and care I did so to save my
sanity I gave him his own car when he got his license.

The deal was I would take care of the maintainece and repairs while they were
still in school but he had to earn enough money for gas and insurance. Then to
put some bite into the NO when he wanted one of our cars we didn't add
insurance coverage for him so legally he couldn't drive them.

Best thing I ever did! He had 7 fender benders in the course of the first year
he had his license. My cars didn't get dented and I didn't have to deal with
the surcharges. He's almost 30 now and I still won't trust him with one of my
cars. I did the same for the younger two and they each had fender benders in
that first year that would have driven me nuts if it was my car. These two are
in their early mid 20's now and have developed into considerate safe drivers, I
have no problems lending them my vehicles.

Thankfully they never got hurt and never hurt anyone else and I never blew a
gasket over any of incidences.
