Shared off the PC - need to have that PC on anytime anyone wants to
print. Need to set up permissions on the PC to allow other users to
print. Some printers may feed off the host PC to do their "thinking",
so while printing could slow the host down.
Network direct into the printer - As long as the printer and router are
on, you're good to go. Printer is usually self-sufficient. Anyone can
connect to your network and use the printer if they have the driver
(this is both a pro and a con - the con is where you have a wireless
network, someone finds it, breaks in (you do have all the security set
up, right?), and starts printing all of Wikipedia).
