It's not going on the paint. There's a groove between the windshield
and the A-pillar and the wire is in there. inside the groove is the
gasket that holds the windshield in.

Yeah, it does depend on what's in the vehicle. Given that we can't
exactly go out and buy something new for at least a year and a half
anyway, it's kind of a moot point right now.
