RE: 3.9L V6 gas mileage/Electric Fan options

I put the Black Magic on mine a few years ago, (98 5.2). In Atlanta, I
could not run it from about May to September or where the temp got above
about 85 degrees. I own a Viper Fan, just have never installed it, (maybe I
will now that I have my new fandango garage..). Anyway, I get about 2-3
more mpg and it is a lot peppier, after all, the clutch fan is quite heavy
and I like that I am taking such a load off the water pump. Now that I live
in KY, I think I may be able to run the BM all year, but do plan to put the
viper fan on. Bottom line, I am happy with the electric fan.

Not really in the snipping mood, but I"ll paraphrase some stuff and
hopefully make sense....

You could keep the t-stat setup like you have it with a decent electric fan.

Try to find one that moves enough air and requires the least amount of
modification. Most electric fans won't even kick on untill 200 degrees, even

with an adjustable setup, so keeping it cool without the fan is important. I

saw a significant improvement in mileage and response from an elctric fan,
but mine was on a premag. Do some homework and read about CFM ratings and
horsepower cooling ratings (info available on manufacturer websites). Buy a
fan according to your usage. If you use AC a lot, a fan that's got some
power is better. Do some homework before you buy and you'll come out with
something that works well for you.
