Hey Dan - I do that all the time with my Ram. More the 2-3 shift than
the 1-2. I found that I did not like the way the 46RE handled the 1-2
shift when I did it manually. But I do usually let off the gas a little
if I shift from 2-3. it seems a little smoother than if I just throw
the lever.

Why do I do it? Because I don't like the shift points where the 46RE is
set up to shift 2-3. I can usually stall the 1-2 shift longer by holding
the hammer down a little harder... but the damned thing shifts way too
soon for me liking and tends to bog the engine down if I'm trying to get
up to speed on the highway or to pass.

I also looove downshifting 3-2 manually - at riiight about 42 mph. That
speed tends to produce the best popping and burbling sounds on deaccel.
hehe... REAL fun to do it next to a Ricer :D

VERY bad to do it with a 'Sconnie County Mountie RIGHT on your bumper..
hehe - done that before too :) -- oops!
