When my coil failed, the truck would randomly stall. Sometimes it would
restart, other times not so much. It eventually set a code, but I think it
took 5 or 7 times before it did. Ambient temps didn't really have an effect
on it, IIRC it was in the 50 degree range when it happened.
I'm with you on fuel filter though. I had a similar issue in my Daytona that
ended up being a clogged fuel filter. Something would block the output and
stall the motor, then it would fall away and allow it to restart. Took me a
good while to figure that one out, and I only managed to get it because the
car stalled and wouldn't restart.
Intermittant failures are horrible, good luck.
