One thing no one has mentioned is your fill up. I would suspect the
gasoline you put in there as a possibility. To me anyway - it seems
fishy that just after you fill up you have problems.

I don't leave much stock in coinsidance. Contaminated fuel can cause
pump failure. It happened to Christine after she went in the lake.
Water contaminated fuel caused the pump to die the day after. Electric
fuel pumps use the gas as lubrication. Contaminaton can burn it up. If
  you end up changing the pump, as I suspect you will do - inspect the
fuel in the tank. Drain and refill with fresh stuff if in doubt.
