Sounds like a helluva day there Bill.
That temp sounds about right. In my 96 Dakota the temp gauge does
good to make it past the lower mark on the coolant temp gauge if I
don't snap in my Lund Cold Fronts. Even with them in it barely moves
to 1/3 the way between the lowest mark and the next. This is with a
180 t-stat and full metal (tanks included) radiator. My heater sucks
without my cold fronts (aka doesn't exist) but with the cold fronts it
does enough that it knocks off the cold edge and will warm up after a
while (10-15 minutes of highway driving) inside the cab after it hits
its highest temp. I don't mind the cold but the wife got a nice 12v
electric blanket for Christmas and it has yet to leave the cig lighter
socket in my truck while she is in the passenger seat. So I would say
that it is about right for a 180 t-stat. FWIW, the temps in my are
are lows of upper 20s/lower 30s to highs of lower 40s during the day.
