If you were to just change the balljoints, you can support the lower control
arm with a floorjack or similar to keep the spring in there. If you're
planning on doing bushings you'll have to remove the spring. IIRC you need a
press to change out the bushings on lower arms.
If there's no slop in the arms and the bushings physically look okay then
changing them is up to you.
