I believe they had supply/demand issues when the 4.7 first came out. You may
not have been able to order it because the engines were not available, not
because it wasn't an option. But I know I've seen several 2000 Dakotas with
the 4.7 but I don't recall seeing any with a 5.2.
The FSM could be incorrect as well. My '88 FSM doesn't list the A500 trans
even though my 88 had one. But my Sport package was a mid-year release and
usually those manuals are printed up before the model year is started. Last
minute design/option changes may not be reflected in the manual.
