Yep, WD-40 says its safe for rubber, I have heard other people say
that because it is an oil, it can rot the rubber, some people say it
can soften the rubber, not sure who to believe. :-) I know a lot of
people don't like to use WD-40 in general since its actually not a
great lubricant, although it is great at attracting dirt. :-)
I wouldn't use WD-40 for a long term lubricant and/or protectant
on anything that you care about. It will trap dirt, and as it
ages, some of the ingredients in it will evaporate out, turning
it gummy, and eventually into a varnish.
If you're looking for an alternative, maybe some sort of graphite,
silicone, or lithium grease?
