I checked out Tacos when the current design came out. Considerably
more expensive than a comparable Dak, with 2 fewer cylinders.
Difference being, the Taco's drivetrain would probably last forever.
Tundra at the time would have been too big.
Put any mods on the Tundra yet?
The Tacoma is a nice size but I needed the towing capacity that comes
with the 8 cyl.
I ordered the truck with a lot of stuff that I eventually added to the
Dak;
Black marbleized dash trim
Wheel locks
Spare tire lock
Locking tailgate
Step tubes
Hood protector
Dual stainless exhaust, lotsa $$$$ but it has a great sound and should
last as long as the truck
A fiberglass cap is on order.
Inspecting underneath on the creeper, I found grease fittings on all of
the u-joints on all of the driveshafts. On one of the fill-ups on the
way to North Carolina, we got a tweak over 19 mpg. That's with about 900
miles on the odo. This thing is geared a lot lower to make the 4.7 work.
The Dak had the towing ratio, (3.9) and the 318 is all low end. The
Tundra has a 4.11 rear end and a 5 speed automatic. 1st gear on the
transmission is also very low. The result is catapult launch
acceleration and good cruise speed but it shifts down on hills more.
It's weird to see the tach reading 1k rpm higher at 60 mph.
I'm probably not going to do another custom light bar. The one on the
Dak was to provide a clamp location for the welding tanks. I'm not doing
as much with the railroad museum anymore so that need isn't there.
