I've almost looked into picking up an EZ-pass a few times just
because it seems like the EZ pass lanes are always relatively empty
and the cash lanes are full. I'm not really comfortable with the
idea though; there are some areas which are starting to use the EZ-pass
and similar technology for tracking other than simple toll collection.
I'd really prefer that Uncle Sam didn't know exactly where I am at all
times, how fast I'm going, etc... Although they certainly do lend a
level of convenience to the end users, I think these automated toll
systems may be opening a pandora's box of sorts, the results of which
we may come to regret. Fit me for a tin foil hat if you must, but I
have basically decided that idling in line for a few minutes is a
small price to pay for my (relative) anonymity.
