Uhaul charges $$$$$ for one way rentals. Local rentals are cheaper. And
they frown upon "local" - they want the trailors gone. "Local" is
defined as a rental originating and ending at the same location. So I
could rent one here in Wisconsin, haul it 3 gazillion miles, and return
it to the same place for the same amount of money as if I drive it 5
miles. "local" rentals are charged for every day rented.

I rented the twin axle "Uhaul car hauler" for Christine for last years
bbq and was white knuckled, sheatpants-ed, bug eyed the entire trip. The
basic design of the uhaul twin axle is flawed. The tongue is seruiously
long, and the trailors do not allow for equal weight distribution and
have no ability to use weight distributong hitch setups.

I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but a dolly (front end
tow) would work fine for this situation. The legal details I can't
speak for - but I have used tow dollies before and had no problems.
Most recently when the Neon blew its head up at work, 36 miles from
home. Rented a dolly and towed it home with the V6 Explorer. The Neon
Is prolly near the same weight as that flattie, and if the Explorer cna
handle it - a Dak sure could. A V8 would be a bonus however.

As for tow lights - the magnetic kind work fine and have strong magnets.
You would have to REALLY REALLY hammer the towed car/truck/whatever to
get one to fly off.
