I was changing spark plugs on my Dakota and noticed that the rear section of
the right (passenger) exhaust manifold heat shield had rusted/deteriorated
and was "hanging on" by a couple of thin sections of rusted/deteriorated
metal. So, I removed the heat shield to keep it from falling off. No big
deal to me. However, I notice the other day that the exhaust manifold heat
had melted the wire loom that is on the spark plug wires and I'm concerned
that the heat will melt the plug wires themselves. So, I'm looking for a
fix.
Has anyone put heat tape on their exhaust manifold to keep down engine bay
heat. If so, what are the pros and cons? Also, has anyone done anything
different to help keep down/deflect the exhaust manifold heat? I know, I
guess I could just get another factory shield; but, I wanted to explore some
options.
Thanks,
