Since it is still not running even if you jump the low pressure switch, it
could be the sensor that shuts down the AC when it thinks the system is
freezing up. I've had one fail (not on a Dakota, but an 87 Plymouth Gran
Fury) and the AC would work perfectly, then it would shut off. Sometimes it
would come back on, sometimes not until I shut the car off and it sat.

I only found the problem because I had the factory manual for the car and
with a jumper wire and a volt meter was able to test all the things in the
order the manual specified.

turns off in approx 5 min I tried bypassing high

compresser won't come back on until engine is cold
