Definitely sounds like a linkage problem or not fully engaging

Subject: DML: No gears after engine swap

Any tips? we just swapped my tired 318 for a 360. Got the correct TQ,
flexplate, etc. Bolted everything up, truck idles well but I have no gears.
Shifter moves the linkage, but no reaction from the tranny. We did not do
anything to it other than pull the engine off. We did swap the TQ with a
Mopar
2400 stall.

Everything is bolted up fine, and no strange noises when we rotated the
engine.
No leaks either. We did swap out the ATF dipstick tube with a 94-95 one in
order to use the headers, but I only lost 1/2 a quart or so and topped it
off
afterwards.

Is it possible we managed to not get the pump gears engaged? Was thinking
that
maybe during the engine installation the tranny might also have shifted,
knocking a linkage off on the inside?

This is in a 92 Dak with a 518.
