A lousy EGR will definitely cause those symptoms.

Subject: DML: stumble & stall when cold...

Hey guys, so I replaced the fuel pump on my '94 318, and now have
another problem. When the the truck is cold (not immediately after
start-up, but 2-3 minutes into driving), when trying to accelerate
from a stop, it will stumble and stall. Cranking immediately after is
fruitless unless I floor the gas pedal. With the pedal floored, the
truck starts, and with a little feathering I can overcome the
stumbling and it runs smoothly again. This only happens once or twice
at stops before it's warm "enough" and just continues to run smoothly
after that.

What else I know:
I'm getting a trouble code for the EGR valve. Does a leaky/failing EGR
valve cause symptoms like this? A new one should be arriving today
from Rock Auto.
I had similar (but not identical) problems when my dad's 93 Jeep
pooped it's throttle position sensor. Could this or a bad intake temp
sensor cause these symtoms?

Any ideas or confirmatinos? What I'm hoping is that someone here has
had exactly this happen to them and knows what fixed it :) Otherwise,
I start my trial and error tonight. Unfortunately I've been called in
to work this weekend, and my ball joints need replacing too... so I'm
swamped. Then again... hopefully I can survive Jon's swamp at
Daktoberfest (NO this is not a commitment that I'll be attempting the
pit!)
