Aluminum is usually much more money, lighter, but more money.
And i'm not positive, but i think it's quite brittle when compared with mild
steel.
It would be preferable to have a skid plate bend a little, rather than crack
and/or shatter.

I know on my '00 it came with the crappy plastic skid plates, they didn't
last long at all. There were 2 separate pieces, but i believe they were
bolted up using a couple or three of the same bolts and bolt holes.
