This I highly do not recommend doing. The risk of causing damage to the
belt is too great. Cutting the belt lengthwise and running it,
increases the chances the belt could come apart, if you ask me. Think of
the belt like a rubber band. Try cutting off the edge of a rubber band
and see how long it will last under stress. Cutting the belt will
weaken its overall structure. Ever have a rubber band that snapped
because it got a rip or nick in it? I would rather someone run a 6 rib
belt on the 7 rib pullys, than risk using a cut belt.
