That was my first guess, blown head gasket would make white smoke out the
exhaust pipe, briefly. After that, who knows what else may have broken,
especially if they were trying to drive it that way.
Burning antifreeze is pretty sweet smelling. Did they notice any particular
odor to that white smoke?
