probably nowhere near that level. you are gonna be lucky to pull about 220
from a 3.9L without sacrificing the idle quality. my recommendation would
be to go with a 206 cam, ported intake manifold, and look at socaldakota's
ported 3.9L heads, which seem to be a decent deal, considering all the work
that went into it.

that work can also be done with the 3.9L you have in the truck. not worth
going all-out on a custom-build lower-end, when you are just going to be
adding parts that your stock engine can handle. now, if you want to go and
add a 125-shot of nitrous to that bottom end, you might want to invest in
some forged pistons and beefier rods, which will require rebuilding the
engine.

calculate that 250hp is already beyond 1:1 ci:hp. 280 is way beyond that.
i would stick on the conservative side. 220hp is more than a 5.9L put out
in stock form, and you have the added benefit of better mileage.

also, what gears are you running? swapping in a set of 4.10's on your truck
would make a nice difference, especially if going from a stock truck.

The more i contemplate it, the more prudent it seems to grab a 239 block
from a
wrecked dak and go from there. It would save a lot of money, time, and
hassle.

Anyone know what a 3.9l would max, h.p. wise, without a terrible idle from a
lopey cam? im guessing 25-280hp naturally aspirated?

i think im definately gonna do it.
