Looking at what Google Maps just suggested for Memphis to Fredonia, it
looks like there's no easy/direct way.
Are you looking for fast & direct, or scenic?
If you want scenic, take I40 to Knoxville, then I81 to I77. Then you
have a choice of taking I77 to Cleveland and across I90, or break off
I77 to US19 then I79 through Pittsburgh and up to I90. That'll take you
through the mountains - if you have even more time available, dip south
from Knoxville and tour Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
GMaps (probably the most direct route) says Memphis to Nashville to
Bowling Green (Corvette factory/museum?), through Louisville, Cincy,
Columbus and on to Cleveland. Louisville to NY is a *long* drive (been
there done that) but it'll probably be easier on you than it was for me
when I did it.
