Sounds familiar! (Mine went in Sandusky, OH on my way from school in ROC
to home in MSP). Towed my truck home with a UHaul.

Sounds too good to be true?

Even if not, so what! They should both be NV231s, though yours (behind
the v-8) may be a 231HD. that gives it a wider stronger chain and I
think a larger output.
How exactly did your t-case go? you may be able to swap parts from yours
into the 231 to make a 231 HD. Also be aware that the manual trans and
automatic trans made for different input shaft lengths as well. a
t-case from a manual will need to be spaced back about 3/8-1/2"
Where in MI are you? I have a spare t-case and a bunch of parts to make
it almost whatever you need it to be. (I think you'll loose your 4x4
indicator idiot light due to housing differences and I'd need to double
check on speedometer output gear stuff.
I can't check until this weekend though.

Definitely.
