RE: A/C issues, compressor works, 45PSI but little cold air

Since someone else brought it up, I'm having an
intermittent problem with the AC in my 98 as well. I
can run it and it gets nice and cold most of the time.
Occasionally, on very hot days, all of a sudden the
cold air stops blowing and all I get is a blast of
warm humid air. Sometimes after a few miles, it'll go
back to blowing cold then cut out again. Sometimes it
won't cut back in till I've shut the truck down and
let it sit for about 15 minutes, then its fine for
about an hour till it acts up again. Other days it
runs fine with no problems at all. I considered the
possibility the condenser might be freezing up but I'm
only running it on regular AC with the fan at the next
to lowest setting and the thermostat dial nearly all
the way cold. Also, I checked the drain and it seems
to be open. I also checked the pressures with the
little can gizmo and they seem to be ok as well. I'm
leaning towards a bad low pressure switch but I'm not
entirely sure how to troubleshoot it. Luckily here in
the Sierra Nevada mountains of northern California, it
don't get all that hot in the summer where I need AC
unless I take a run down to the Bay area or into
Sacramento.

Thanks for any input!

Ray

PS to Bernd: Glad to see ya back!
