Running "good" and running within emissions parameters are sometime two
totally different cases.
The intake leak definitely needs to be fixed first. This can cause nasty HC
and NOx emissions. Cleaning the injectors with a quality flush service (not
just the waste-of-time upper intake cleaning that most Iffy-Lube places do)
wouldn't hurt either but do that after fixing the intake plenum leak.
As for replacing the PCM - I have yet to see a PCM cause emissions output
failures on the smog tests....Check engine lights or emissions monitors yes,
but not actual emissions (without some form of warning).

Geez, I sure missed a lot, didn't I? Yes, cap and rotor appear good and
clean. The wires are maybe 2 years old. The coil wire shows 8795 ohms, and I
looked at three of the plug wires and they didn't exceed about 7500 ohms.
Also, it has good pickup, especially in second and third. Also there is no
popping upon let up, either in first or second gears or sitting still. I had
that when the previous 2 OS's were acting up.
I think I know what you're going to say next, it's been in the back of my
mind. The injectors just aren't cutting it anymore. Plus it does have that
famous leak in the beer barrel gasket. I did borrow a tester last summer
when it was sitting around and the pump pressure came in at about 40. I know
that's a hair under range, but it doesn't stumble and it has a recent filter
replacement. (The in-tank one.)
What really stumps me and seemingly most other people who talk smog on the
web is that no one mentions a three line failure on a vehicle that is
seemingly running good. what have I left out? Maybe PCM?? Biff

I also did the tests on the EGR, which is also no more than two years old.
Stumble occurs at 8 to 8.5 in. I know the standard is supposed to be 3.5 to
5. The hold test was perfect, unlike the one that it replaced. I
accidentally put about 20 in. on it instead of 15 and couldn't believe it
when the needle didn't move at all.
