That's strange. Even our on-car lathe does both sides at the same time...as
do both of our standard brake lathes. Heck, they did both sides back in
1989 at the old dealership I worked at in CA.

Sounds to me like he's surfacing both sides... just not at the same time. He
surfaces the front side, turns the rotor around, and surfaces the back side.
