Hey all,
I had some carnage last weekend. I broke the transfer case off the
transmission. The mounting flange broke off the back of the tailshaft
housing. No drama, I think it was just a case of fatigue and the
heavy driveshaft, and the additional stress of dragging the driveshaft
occasionally. I only knew something was wrong when the transfer case
started flopping around and hitting the floor :)
I had to trailer my truck home from wheeling for the first time ever.
So I'm looking at a few options for putting it back together. On the
one hand I want to throw it back together stock real quickly as-is
with an extra mount sandwiched in. I'm sure it will be fine, but I
can't find a tail housing around here.
I think my long term fix is going to be a divorced 203/205 doubler
using a 2wd tail housing on the transmission. I have most of what I
need for that but It'll take a bit to put it together.
I happen to be missing the right slip yoke for that output. It's
larger than the Jeep stuff I have and smaller than the 4x4 Dakota
stuff I have. Anyone have the slip yoke off a 4x2 v8 Dakota around?
Does anyone know if a 46RH tail housing is a match for the 44RE? I
expect not but I do happen to be able to get one of those very easily.
and I'd really like to see the video from my near-rollover, damnit!!!!
