I didn't actually get to test drive until 2 hours after I said I was. A Ford Exploder was
blocking the garage door. Both keys were an hour south east of me, with the owner of the Ford
who is out of town with friends this weekend. *sighs*
So I drove down there and came back with the keys.
Anyway on to the test drive! The new SMEC computer solved the driveability issues. The engine
runs very good, the transmission shifts through all gears and into/out of overdrive. The
kickdown linkage, once installed, took care of the last of the transmission issues. It still
lags a little -- I think I need to tweak it a little more. Now all that is left to do is fix
the million other things wrong. But its clear to me now, that the engine/trans swap that I
planned out over three years ago WORKS! All the crazy mixing and matching of parts from
different years and models of trucks actually works! Even if its not ready this summer, I know
that I can finish it without a doubt!!!
