I took a test drive to see if I managed to fix the drivers side door issue. It
seems I did. I adjusted the hinges and managed to get the door back to about
where it was before I tried to yank it off with a rogue tow strap at the BBQ...
on my test drive... I came across a grizzly sight.
The local dodge dealers back lot is full with Cash for Clunkers waiting for
slaughter. Its the first time I have been there in a few weeks... and the
first since the program ended. There are 4 Dakotas on the lot.
Two Gen II shot box regular cab 2wds - quite rusty.
One Gen II V8 4x4, 5 speed - little rusty but not bad... (RARE power train
combo... that hurts..)
What hurts more... is a pretty much eat-off-the-engine clean Gen I, 4x4, long
bed, regular cab, Dodge Dakota. Power locks, windows, mirrors, auto,
fiberglass bed cap... its brown with brown interior... not the color I would go
for. A look at the frame in the dark seems to reveal rusty stuff, but it might
be surface only. I couldn't get a really good look, but the common rust-out
spots are not rusted out. The inner splash shields are even in great shape.
I'm not holding out hope... but I'm going to talk to them tomorrow. Seeing as
how I bought the Ram from them, and they are a customer of ours... I'm hoping
that they just might be able to work something out.
