Another one of my stupid ideas

Anyone ever modified the 4wd floor shifter on their Dakota (2nd gen in my case)
so it's "easier at hand"? The bloody thing is so far down and under the dash
that getting to it when you need it is a pain for lazy blokes like me who don't
enjoy taking their eyes off the road to shift into 4HI on the fly.

I do a lot of city driving and like most cities, the snowplows only hit the
roads they feel like hitting. That and they like to plow the snow into berms
in the middle of the road blocking you from making left turns into parking
garages. Kicking it into 4HI for a quick berm blast is easier when you can
actually watch the road while shifting into 4wd.

I was thinking some kind of setup with some bent steel rod with a knob attached
to the shifter somehow, preferably removable for when the weather isn't so
inclement.
