Setting torsion bars

After replacing the lower ball joints I would like to set my torsion
bars properly. I did one ball joint at a time and reset them so the
vehicle was level. But then I read the correct procedure in the shop
manual - you measure distance from the ground at two points ('inboard
of the steering stop' and 'at the control arm pivot point between the
webs') and take the difference. This value should be in a certain
range (like 1.0 to 1.5 inches). Also you have to bounce the front end
up and down a few times when adjusting. One thing I notice is that
the illustration in the shop manual is kind of vague about the outer
measuring point - showing it as somewhere along the stretch of control
arm between the sway bar attachment and a bump further out (I guess
that's the 'steering stop'). The measurements could vary depending on
the measuring point.

I'm not interested in cranking it up or anything. I just want stock
height that will not eat front end components rapidly, and then will
check camber and toe-in with a digital laser level (I'm cheap).
