Your donating your used oil to the "guy down the street" makes sense, Jon.
If you do chainsaw work, though, retain a little as you need for bar oil.
As for your other point, I disagree that 30 weight is too thin. Actually,
imho you don't want it too viscous as it has to find its way thru a small
port to get to the chain. Most used oil is perfect for this purpose.
