Jason,
I'm pretty sure the cat would be worth cash down in the lower 48. I
know my nephew had his stolen off his vehicle for the scrap value.
Additionally, a couple years ago when metal prices when through the
roof, my body guy dumped a lot of rough vehicles from his back 40.
Before they were crushed he removed the radiators, cats, batteries and
rims. Because these were all worth more money scrapped separately than
with the rest of the vehicle.
