Not to suggest improper methodology but couldn't you use a crescent wrench?
Pick up some speed bleeders and put them in while you're doing the job.
If the standard crescent doesn't get the job done you could always try a
metric one...

No such tricks worked for the front left. As I described, it's just larger
than 9m and just smaller than 3/8"!
Needless to say (I guess it's needless), I don't have repair manual - never
have. I wonder what the repair manual says should be the size of these
bleeders. Anyone have one for the '97?
