Rob,
I just went through this same thing with a buddy's Dak. Pulling the dash is the last thing I wanted to do.
Pulling the LF inner fender was simple enough, justs a few plastic buttons to pop off (or cut off) and it slips out. You can check the a/c drain very easily. I our case this wasn't the problem - on to step two.
I had the front seat out and carpet out to dry it all out. I sat inside the cab and my buddy used a garden hose to run water along the windshield and down the cowl. We found one leak. On the outside, behind the inner fender there was a crack in the seam sealer where the firewall joins the side of the cab, right behind the tire. It wasn't leaking from water being splashed up from the tire, but rather rain coming down from the cowl area. Inside the cab I discovered a spot about 1" along the cab to firewall seam where the seam sealer was lacking. Plugged those two up and stopped "some" of the water. Where we discovered most of the water coming from was behind the door panel! My buddy had a local stereo shop replace the door speakers. With the door panel off and a garden hose putting water on the door window, water would flow down the window track, drip onto the speaker, and drip to the inside of the door entering the cabin. Got some gasket material (and new plastic buttons for the inner fender) and he
's been good and dry for several months now.
Didn't you say something about a new stereo install? Anyhow, I was damn sure relieved that I didn't have to pull the dash...
Cal
