They priced it out of competition because you could get a full size Ram with
the 5.7L for less than the cost of a Dakota with the 4.7L.

 

And as for putting a "hemi head" motor in the Dakota, the 4.7L is commonly
called a "baby hemi" because it has hemispherical heads.

How did they price it out of the competition? Have you seen how much
a tacoma costs? Even the Nissan Frontier. The dakota has more
capacity than both those trucks. What the dakota doesn't compete with
is hp. My v8 has less hp than the Toyota and Nissan v6.
