I have a couple ideas but need more info first.

Does the engine turn over normally while trying to start?

Have you checked the battery voltage with a volt meter?

Have you checked the air filter box for standing water?

Have you checked a coil for output voltage while cranking?

Have you checked all engine grounds for clean, dry, tight connections?

FWIW, I have a 2000 Jeep 4.7L and have power washed the engine each of the
eleven years I've owned it with no problems. Can't imagine what was done
wrong on yours. Water "shouldn't" hurt it.
