I've got a '96 4x4 V8 5-speed and I've been averaging just about the same,
probably about net 16 mpg all around, but I've gotten close to 19 with
straight highway driving. I think that the V-6's were EPA rated at 17
city/19 hwy and the V-8's were 15/17 respectively...

I don't have the Sport model, but I too have the Wrangler AT's, and I guess
they have *some* road noise, but with the soundproofing of the cabin, I
don't have any complaints about overly loud road noise. You might try
another in the Wrangler series, I know they have a GA series (I think?) that
is more of a street tire... Also, if money's no object, the new Michelin LTX
series are supposed to be quite good (and expensive)...
