Yes, this is best place to get one. Good luck finding one. I searched
long and hard to find mine. Be sure to buy the complete drive line.
You will use a lot more parts than you ever expected. Remember there is
a few flavors of the 4 speed auto. The one I have is the larger HD
unit. It was based off the 727 design. It is considerably bigger than
the one in my Dakota. Also the output shaft is also a larger spline.
Things to think about.
FUEL: Yank a complete tank/ fuel sending unit out of a newer Dakota.
The scrap yards have them, $150 - $200 depending on where you go. I was
able to reuse my motor mounts. Also don't forget about exhaust work.
I have found a few bad (really bad) Dakota roll overs in my area. They
seem to go around $4-5K. But it would still give you everything you
need mechanically.
I personally would not try another conversion project with just buying
the pieces out of the scrap yards. I have found that at the end of the
project the nickel dime stuff killed me.
