My 92 v6 has the auto and it has been rebuilt. Since then it has developed
a problem VERY similar to what you describe. The people the did the work on
the tranny after hearing my description of the problem said that they
thought it was the "thermister". What they told me was that it was device
in an automatic that protects the OD from excessive heat, such as that from
towing, by knocking the trans out of OD. They told me that is was a
relitively cheap part but its buried in the trans so labor would run 350+.
I've learned to live with it, and can through driving habits can usually get
it to shift right. I've also considered adding a aux trans cooler. If
anyone can give me any info(cost, difficulties) on adding a cooler to the
trans please post it.

By the way, I'm no expert so if someone with the knowledge on the list would
please verify what I've said I'd appreciate it.
