I just recently took a trip from Calgary, Alberta to Winnipeg, Manitoba
and back (1300 kms / 750 mi). I recorded the mileage and was quite
impressed by the results. Here's the info:

87 Dakota Long Box Regular Cab 2wd
3.9 V6 carb'd (Bosch Plugs, Accel Coil, everything else stock)
Auto tranny
3.90 rear end? (I've never looked)

Camping gear, luggage, tools, and beer were in the box. I have a tonneau
cover that keeps it all down and dry and helps my fuel economy.

Here are the results:

High Way (Using Cruise)

Best - 24.5 MPG at 60 - 70 mph on reasonably flat road
Worst - 21.5 MPG at 60 - 70 mph on reasonably flat road (some wind)

  Avg - 22 MPG

Combined

  Best - 23 MPG
  Worst - 20 MPG

  Avg - 21 MPG

Not bad for a truck that's 9 yrs old and has 70,000 miles on it.
